Job Description
The Lecturer in Engineering is a dual-impact role combining academic excellence with industry connectivity. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction within the School of Engineering, specifically focusing on Civil Engineering curricula.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Leadership & Campus Support
- Monitor academic results; implement interventions for "at-risk" students and modules.
- Provide student counseling and track progress through regular consultations.
- Assist in program accreditation and create/moderate academic materials for the Central Academic Team (CAT).
- Guide the marketing team with program expertise and manage academic administration during registration.
- Manage plagiarism cases and student disciplinary procedures.
Student & Faculty Development
- Build industry links to secure student placements, bursaries, and professional expertise.
- Organize campus events to foster industry relationships
- Participate in professional activities, conferences, and higher-degree studies.
Lecturing & Assessment
- Deliver lectures on engineering programs across various delivery modes.
- Manage marking and feedback; provide internal moderation across delivery sites as needed.
- Coordinate academic support and track success for specific programs.
- Support lecturer development through peer reviews and workshops.
Research & Scholarship
- Foster a culture of scholarship and contribute to the institution's annual research targets.
Requirements & Skills
- Minimum of Bachelor of Engineering Honours (NQF Level 8) in Civil Engineering and be studying towards a Master of Engineering (NQF Level 9) in Civil Engineering.
- Where studying towards a Masters, proof of registration is required, the proposal completed, ethical clearance granted and data collection in process. In the case of a coursework Masters, completion of at least 3 or 4 modules.
- At least 2 years of Lecturing experience (preferably in a tertiary education environment).
- Must have an understanding of the regulatory framework and its impact on higher education and private colleges.
